Proctored Testing for Online Courses
The Testing Centers at Howard College in Big Spring, Lamesa, SWCD, and San Angelo offer test proctoring for students taking online courses. Each facility includes seats for computer-based testing and desks for paper exams. With the exception of calculators, as required by an instructor, no other electronic device is allowed in the Testing Center at any time. Non-essential personal items can be stored by the testing center at the Owner’s risk.
All examinees will be required to present a non-expired state or federal government ID or a current school-issued ID prior to being admitted into the testing room.
The cost for testing is $15 per exam and must be paid in advance through the Business Office.
*This testing fee may be waived if the exam is for a Howard College course and the student is a registered Howard College student.
Availability is not guaranteed until the student makes an appointment for a specific time and date.
Note: ADA Accommodations requests must be approved first by a Howard College ADA Coordinator and then by the instructor before scheduling with the Testing Center. Any accommodations beyond additional time require special staffing and must be arranged well in advance. It is the student’s responsibility to make those arrangements in a timely fashion.
Information for Howard College Instructors
The Testing Center can provide proctored tests for students who are taking courses through online and distance programs.
Due to limited space and resources, testing at our facility will be available by reservation only. Availability is guaranteed once the student schedules an appointment. Faculty should encourage students to schedule an appointment through the test center at least one week in advance.
Instructors will be responsible for filling out the appropriate proctor request form and for selecting each campus that will be asked to administer the exam. This request form must be completed and submitted at least 4 working days in advance of the first scheduled date. A copy of the completed form is automatically sent to the designated test center and to the instructor.
ADA Accommodations – Instructors must provide Test Center with two copies of the paper tests at least one week of the scheduled test date and direct students to schedule an appointment in advance.
HC instructors should align exam deadlines to correlate with Test Center’s Hours of Operation.
No scoring or item analysis is available with this service.
HC Instructors of online courses with, or without, ADA Accommodations should fill out this HC Proctor Request Form.
*Please note that the Course and Section Number fields are not optional. Neither is the Test Name field. These are needed to ensure each student is administered the correct exam. The Course Roster may be copied from a spreadsheet column and pasted into the appropriate box.
