New Teaching Scholarship Established at Howard College

The ‘Mike and Sheila Abusaab Teaching Scholarship’ has been established at Howard College thanks to the generosity of Mike and Sheila Abusaab who are long-time supporters of students and education.

Each year, the endowed scholarship will provide a $500 scholarship to a deserving graduate from Big Spring ISD, Coahoma ISD, and Forsan ISD as they begin their teacher education process at Howard College.

“We definitely have a teacher shortage in our area and we want to do our part to help encourage students to enter the education field,” said Sheila Abusaab. “By starting this scholarship, we are hoping that others might want to donate to it as well. The more students we can encourage to enter the teaching field, the stronger our education system will become.”

Mike and Sheila Abusaab are strong supporters of Howard College as well as the local school districts as they continue to set an example of commitment to education, encouraging students to use education as their road map to success.

The scholarship will be available for 2019 graduating seniors and the application can be found online at www.howardcollege.edu. If students have already submitted their scholarship application for the 2019-2020 academic year, they can contact financial aid and ask to have their application considered for the new scholarship.

Students who have not yet submitted their scholarship application can still apply with an extended deadline of May 1, 2019.
