It is always a beautiful day when we can share the value of education with our students. Today, Jayden Tubb, was recognized as the first recipient of the Derek Wayne Griffith Memorial Endowed Scholarship.
The scholarship was established this year by Steve and Jo Stone in memory of their son Derek. Tubb is the son of Theron Tubb and Michelle Moore. Grandparents are David and Cindy Tubb.
The scholarship will be given each year to a choir student at Howard College.
Derek passed away in January 2020. He played baseball and sang in the choir and in Rhapsody at Big Spring High School and was the first freshman to be selected for Meistersingers at that time. After graduating in 1990, he then attended Howard College and while there, he toured across the country, singing with the Joe Whitten Prison Ministries. He loved singing the National Anthem, unaccompanied, at the Howard College Hawks basketball games.
We are very grateful to the family for entrusting Howard College with the scholarship fund and look forward to watching it change lives and help make dreams real for generations to come. #makingdreamsreal
