In keeping with the mission and goals of Howard College, the Computed Tomography Advanced
Certificate Program is dedicated to providing the education of students in specialized
radiography equipment to produce diagnostic sectional images of the human anatomy.
The program will provide learning opportunities that are innovative and educationally
sound. We are committed to personal development of each student in the Computed Tomography
field so that he or she will have the entry level skills needed to provide quality
procedures, excellent patient care, and the knowledge needed to successfully pass
the national ARRT registry and serve the community as a competent Computed Tomography
staff technologist.

time, this program will only be offered if there is enough interest to make a class
cohort.
All admission requirements must be completed by July 15th for new classes that begin
in the fall.
Pre-application Requirements (Before by July 15th):
- Must be a registered technologist in radiologic technology through the ARRT
- Must be licensed as a Medical Radiologic Technologist through the Texas Medical Board
(TMB)
- Must take and pass the approved Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers class.
- Complete and pass a Criminal Background Check
Application Requirements Due by by July 15th.
Submit the Health Professions Application for the desired program to the Health Professions
Division along with an official transcript from each college /university attended
including Howard College. This must be turned in between May 1st and by July 15th.
- Provide proof of immunizations – provide copies, you keep the originals for your records.
Immunizations required: Hepatitis B (3 doses OR a positive titer; must have received
the first 2 doses of the series by July 15th deadline, MMR (2 doses OR a positive
titer, Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis – one dose within the last 10 years).
Varicella (2 doses OR a positive titer)
Process of Selection Depends on availability of clinical education space and the following:
- Grades from previous Radiography program courses may be considered
Prior to the start of the Fall Semester, selected students must do the following when
instructed to do so by the program chair:
- Pass a ten-panel drug test (30 days prior to beginning clinical rotations).
- Show proof of health insurance
- Provide documentation of having taken the flu vaccine and completed a TB skin test.
Travel for Clinical Practicum
During the course of the program, students will have clinical assignments requiring
travel to and from the affiliated clinical facilities.
Evening, Weekend, and Staggered Hours for Clinical Practicum
During the course the program, students will have a clinical schedule that requires
the student to be in the clinical setting during the daytime, evening, and/or weekend
hours.
Transfer of Credit
Transfer of CT credit from other programs will be evaluated on an individual basis.
Online Computed Tomography Courses
During the course of the program, all courses are provided online except for clinical
and practicum courses.

- Basic Life Support Class for Health Care Providers (CPR) – $56

- Health Insurance – Variable
- TB Test (PPD) – Variable depending on health insurance
- Flu Shot – Variable
- Clinical Travel Expenses – Variable
Uniforms:
- Scrubs – red top / black pants – $60 each set (each student will need at least 2 sets
of scrubs) (variable)
- Lab coats are optional – $40 (variable)
Textbooks: (prices are variable)
- Fall Semester I – $200
- Spring Semester – No Additional
Licensing Expenses during Final Semester:
- ARRT Secondary Registry Application Fee – $225
